Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women. Northwest Health - Porter is committed to providing helpful services to educate women on breast health and encouraging self-exams and routine screenings.

Designated as an American College of Radiology, Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, we use advanced imaging technology that may be able to detect breast abnormalities at the earliest stages. Diagnostic techniques include:

• Digital mammography – Produces a sharp, clear computer image that provides more accurate screenings. Digital mammography is available at Northwest Health - Porter’s Center for Women’s Health, Northwest Health - Portage and Northwest Health - Valparaiso.
• 3D mammography (tomosynthesis) – Proven to increase the detection rate of early breast cancer, and particularly helpful for women with dense breasts. 3D mammography is available at Northwest Health - Porter’s Center for Women’s Health, Northwest Health - Portage and Northwest Health - Valparaiso.
• Breast MRI – Equipped with a specialized breast table which may provide enhanced images and a more comfortable experience for patients.
• Ultrasound (sonography)
• Biopsy – When a lump or abnormal area is detected during screening, a biopsy can determine whether cells are cancerous. Advanced imaging technology — such as MRI or mammography — can be combined with minimally invasive techniques to obtain tissue samples.
