At Northwest Health - Porter, the safety of expectant moms is a top priority. That's why our board-certified OB/GYN physicians - known as laborists - are in the hospital, 24/7, 365 days a year. Whether it’s routine labor, a high-risk pregnancy, or an unexpected complication, they deliver immediate, knowledgeable care any time, day or night.
Our dedicated OB emergency department (OB ED), located within labor & delivery, strives to ensures that every pregnant patient receives prompt evaluation and treatment from an obstetrician.

When to Come to the OB Emergency Department
Expectant mothers should visit the OB ED if experiencing:
- Signs of preterm labor (like cramping, contractions)
- Abdominal or pelvic pain
- Nausea and vomiting that cannot be controlled
- Dehydration
- Vaginal bleeding
- Sudden or severe swelling, vision changes or high blood pressure
- Leaking or ruptured amniotic fluid
What to Expect
When you arrive you'll be evaluated by an OB/GYN and nursing support. They can provide testing, monitoring and treatment and will coordinate with your primary obstetrician or midwife to determine further care.
