OB Emergency Department
Northwest Health - Porter is pleased to offer Northwest Indiana's first 24/7 OB emergency department (OB ED). This service enhances patient safety and care by ensuring that a board-certified physician specializing in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) is in the hospital and available at all times, 24 hours a day, seven days of the week and every day of the year.
Because of the hospitalist program, hospital-based board-certified OB/GYNs are available around-the-clock to focus on providing care for patients in the hospital setting, including consistent care to patients in the hospital as well as emergent care to those arriving in labor and delivery.
Knowledgeable Emergency Care
Northwest Health - Porter wants expectant mothers experiencing complications to be seen right away by a board-certified OB/GYN, who can provide care until the patient's own doctor can evaluate the mother and baby’s condition. OB ER physicians work with your primary OB/GYN provider to give immediate care and help make decisions about hospital admission or discharge.
These dedicated OB/GYN physicians provide a number of services, including supporting the care of high-risk pregnancy patients and delivering babies for patients who don't have an obstetrician.
Why might an expectant mother-to-be come to the OB ED?
- Concern about pre-term labor
- Pelvic pain
- Abnormal vaginal bleeding
- Urological conditions, such as bladder infections or urinary tract infections
- Conditions related to high-risk pregnancy (example: high blood pressure)
